So it's very Vata to be hungry at any time of the day or night; to love excitement and constant change; to go to sleep at different times every night; to skip meals; to have irregular habits in general; to digest food well one day and poorly the next; to have bursts of emotion that are short-lived and quickly forgotten; to walk quickly. Vatas are quite frequently unpredictable, and their behavior is much less regular than that of either Pittas or Kaphas. The basic theme of the Vata type is changeability. They have, as I mentioned, a tendency to worry, a tendency to constipation, a tendency to overexert, and they tire easily. Vata types are very quick to grasp new information, but they also tend to forget easily. All these can occur when the Vata dosha gets im-balanced. They are excitable, their moods can change quickly, and when they go out of balance the same properties of enthusiasm and vivaciousness and imaginativeness can manifest as anxiety, worry, insomnia, restlessness, irritable bowels, menstrual Cfafripg, 6f fnigriiflfi headaches. By nature Vata types are enthusiastic, vivacious, and imaginative. They are particularly prone to insomnia because their sleep is light and interrupted. They perform activities very quickly, and their hunger and digestion can be irregular. Vata types are usually light, with a thin build.
For a Vata, mental and physical energy comes in bursts, without steadiness. Their variability, whether it's in size, shape, mood, or action, is their trademark. Understanding this will help you relate your psychophysiological tendency to the insomnia that you've been experiencing - keeping in mind, of course, that insomnia is ultimately an aggravation or imbalance of the Vata dosha. Let's discuss the body types one by one, in order to give you some idea which body type or combination you are. Those disorders can occur in anyone, but it's the Vata dosha that becomes unbalanced to cause insomnia, just as it's the Kapha dosha that ultimately gets aggravated to cause overweight. Of course this doesn't mean that if you're a Kapha type you can't have insomnia or that Pitta types can't gain weight. The Vata types are prone to insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety.
